Eight Songs from Isolation

A first opera for a socially distanced world

Project details

We supported Oliver Zeffman’s innovative project “Eight Songs from Isolation”, an opera created in response to and during the 2020 global lockdown.

Oliver commissioned orchestral songs (setting poetry, letters, and speech) from eight leading composers (including Thomas Adès, Freya Waley-Cohen, Huw Watkins, and Julian Anderson), to chart the ways lockdown has eroded our way of life and bring a new perspective on physical isolation.

Each work is performed by a different singer (including soprano Sophie Bevan, mezzo Sarah Connolly and baritone Andrei Kymach) alone in a variety of locations around the world, shot entirely on iPhone.
