Polonsky Academy for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences

An academy for post-doctoral research in the humanities and social sciences at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute

Project details

The Polonsky Academy’s mission is to promote excellence and creativity in the humanities and social sciences, by enabling talented young international and Israeli post-doctoral researchers to focus on research and writing for an extended period of time, thus assisting them to further their academic careers and thereby further advance knowledge in their fields.

The Polonsky Academy is based at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, one of Israel’s leading independent research institutes, and neighbours Israel’s Council of Higher Education and the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. It can accommodate up to thirty Polonsky Fellows. The building, opened in 2014, has won awards for its architectural design and environmental sustainability. The Polonsky Academy is based at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, one of Israel’s leading independent research institutes, and neighbours Israel’s Council of Higher Education and the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. They are awarded an annual stipend of $40,000 for up to four years (with a possible fifth year in exceptional circumstances), enabling them to develop their individual research and to advance their academic status.
